December in Ms. Robinson's Classroom!



This Month:
Character Education Trait: Empathy

Literacy

Students created Anti-Bullying posters inspired

Literacy
We will be reading about Empathy – putting yourself in the place of someone else.

The Sweetest Fig By Chris Van Allsburg



Students wrote poems from the point of view of the 2 main characters, and performed silent tableaux showing 3 scenes from the story.

We will also be reading fiction and non fiction texts about the Arctic, including texts about Arctic animals like polar bears.






Math
We will complete our Patterning unit and begin working on Measurement including linear measurements (cm, mm, m, km) and perimeter and area.

Students also completed Winter Coordinates activities: 




Social Studies
The grade 3’s will finish working on Living and working in Canada, and the grade 4’s will finish Canada’s provinces, territories and Regions.

We also learned how to draw cute penguin pictures for art:

Be reliable and dependable. Don’t make excuses or blame others.
November 21- November 25: Anti-Bullying Week

Remembrance Day: Friday, November 11th
P.A. Day: Friday, November 18th





Literacy:
*We are learning to find information in text to answer comprehension questions and to use our own ideas to give our opinions about the text and write responses.

Some November Read Alouds:

*We are using prompts to write paragraphs with 4-5 sentences.
A paragraph has a topic sentence, 3-4 descriptive sentences and a closing sentence.





Math:

Patterning: students will create and complete repeating, growing and shrinking patterns using shapes and numbers.



               

Social Studies:

Grade 3: Living and Working in Ontario

Grade 4: Canada’s Provinces, Territories and Landforms

LITERACY


We are going to learn all about BATS, just in time for Halloween. 
It will all begin with Stellaluna By Janell Cannon.




We will also read non fiction texts to learn more information about bats.


It's Autumn, so we are reading books about fall to get great ideas for Awesome Autumn writing. 




MATH

SCIENCE


Grade 3 - Forces
